About Bulgaria

Founded in 681, Bulgaria is one of the oldest states in Europe. Located in the hearth of the Balkans, Bulgaria offers a highly diverse landscape: the north is dominated by the vast lowlands of the Danube and the south by the highlands and elevated plains.

In the east, the Black Sea coast attracts tourists all year round. Bulgaria is a country with a long, tumultuous and fascinating history. It has been invaded, conquered and settled by Greeks, Scythians, Romans, Byzantines and Turks, all of whom left their indelible marks on the landscape. Since 2007 Bulgaria is a member of the European Union.
